How to Eliminate Corruption in Nigeria

To make progress in the war against corruption, the next Nigerian government must take this action

Corruption kills! — How many times have you seen these words on a poster hanging in a public place?

Of all the problems plaguing Nigeria, corruption is the biggest challenge we have; all other problems are invariably linked to or exacerbated by corruption.

In 2015 when Muhammadu Buhari was vying to be the president of Nigeria, he promised Nigerians to fight corruption and was voted in to do just that. Within his first year in office, it had become obvious that his administration was not serious about fighting corruption; it was all a Potemkin ruse. It appears that to escape the corruption charges, all you had to do was defect to the APC — the ruling party. Which begs the question; how do you know when a government is serious about fighting corruption? What action screams “we mean business about fighting corruption?”

As the popular saying goes, if you fight corruption, it fights back. To successfully fight corruption, we have to learn from the many examples of other countries that mean business.

Let’s take China for example. Since Xi Jinping became the president of China, he has led an extensive anti-corruption…
